His full name is Fionn mac Cumhaill, Anglicized to Finn McCool, "Finn" for short, for this cool dog. Fionn mac Cumhaill was not only the central hero of the Fenian cycle of ancient Irish saga, but a dog lover himself--and his dogs were wise and kind. For example, one day Fionn came across a little naked boy in the wilderness--and two of Fionn's best dogs were already there, guarding and protecting the boy. "Fionn" means "fair-haired" in Irish Gaelic.

ReplyDeleteHello. A very good friend sent me this link because my sweet Buckley looked very similar to your Finn. After reading more, it turns out they were litter mates ♥️ Unfortunately my sweet Buckley is no longer with us, but I thought it might be fun to connect. I miss Buckley everyday — he was the most amazing dog. I would love to hear about Finn!
